Founded in 2017 by Thomas Barker, the College Skateboarding Educational Foundation (CSEF) proved that sponsorship isn’t the only lane in skateboarding. Offering scholarships for skateboarders pursuing higher learning, CSEF has continued to grow its reach and imprint in skating and education, raising $90,000 in scholarship funds in 2024 alone. Helping skateboarders further their education regardless of their financial situation or circumstances, CSEF has been pivotal in not only helping members of the skate community reach their goals but also in reshaping the tropes and stereotypes of skateboarding itself.

Concept Research
The CSEF team was clear about wanting this Dunk to be about education. With this idea, we dived into what is common for the student experience. We were heavily inspired by No. 2 Pencils, the pink eraser, scantrons, and graduation gowns.

All of these ideas combined into one shoe, but my goal was to make sure these ideas felt grounded. This was done by incorporating heavy neutrals like white and black to ensure that the hero of the design was the pencil outsole.Â

The overlays scuff to eraser pink as one skates through the shoe and the turquoise color is used as a reference to the CSEF branding colors.
The College Skateboarding Educational Foundation (CSEF) was made by skateboarders for skateboarders. Operated entirely by volunteers with no payroll, CSEF ensures 100% of donations go directly to student scholarships.
